CulTourData

The CulTourData project in the European context has outlined a roadmap for the digitalisation of data-driven cultural tourism, promoting a collaborative ecosystem applied to urban and rural contexts. In Italy, thirteen tourism SMEs from five different regions participated: Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Tuscany and Lazio, with a diversity mainly represented by hotel services (5), agrotourism (1), tourism services (6) and social cooperatives (1).

A key aspect of this project was its focus on gender inclusivity, with six out of the thirteen participating organizations being led by women, enriching the innovation process through diverse perspectives.

Duration

The creation of digital capacities was essential, requiring detailed planning to ensure the seamless development of specialized tourism products and services. The diversity of data sources, including customer feedback, Google surveys, and sensory workshops, introduced a layer of complexity that demanded innovative analytical approaches. NOVAMANTO’s expertise in data science and digital marketing fostered the development of tailored capabilities, enabling the creation of solutions that addressed the unique challenges of each project.

The interdisciplinary approach allowed the integration of the skills of different experts to experiment with the co-design of promotional tools innovative by involving the public in the design processes.
Legend 2a: Merging data and creativity.

The capacity-building phase centered around gathering insights from user feedback to assess service quality and enhance community engagement.

This approach was pivotal in refining digital marketing strategies and tourism product offerings. To maximize impact, workshops, and creative sessions were designed to encourage collaboration between tourism SMEs, creative industries, and data experts, ensuring a holistic development process.

Solutions

NOVAMANTO, entrusted with enhancing digital capabilities and cross-sector collaboration, strategically addressed the project’s challenges. Key decisions were made early on to integrate data-driven methods, ensuring a seamless combination of customer feedback, community outreach, and innovative digital tools.

Legend 2b: Improve tourism decision-making through the use of data.

A key aspect of this project was its focus on gender inclusivity, with six out of the thirteen participating organizations being led by women, enriching the innovation process through diverse perspectives.

A phased strategy was employed to implement digitalization, starting with the design and adoption of digital tools tailored to the needs of each tourism organization. With nine out of thirteen participants fully embracing these tools, the project demonstrated significant advancements in the digitalization of local tourism services. The second phase focused on refining cross-sector collaboration, where network development and joint innovation between tourism, culture, and technology sectors were key drivers for success. This collaboration resulted in creative solutions, such as interactive digital galleries and enhanced visitor experiences through data-driven narratives.

One of the standout outcomes of the project was the high level of joint innovation achieved through cross-sector partnerships, where new business models emerged from interdisciplinary efforts. The involvement of women-led organizations in six of the thirteen projects was a defining feature, emphasizing diversity and inclusivity throughout the innovation process.

Finally, while the long-term sustainability of the project posed some challenges, particularly in the regular use of dynamic data, efforts were made to ensure ongoing data collection and adaptability. Static and dynamic data integration, though achieved in four organizations, will be a critical focus for future development, ensuring that tourism services remain relevant and responsive to emerging trends.
